Lighting Stage 40
On the real fire truck, the bottom light of the Light Cluster in Stage 40 is supposed to be a strobing light. Therefore, as I was building this stage, I stopped after installing the top three Lenses:
I then secured a Micro Bit Light (Red) LED into the back of the final red lens. It already had a circular recess in it, so I did not need to drill it:
I fed the wire of this LED through the remaining hole in the Light Cluster:
To keep the bottom LED on the stock Light Cluster PCB from lighting up (it would normally come on with the headlights), I scraped a line through the trace at this location on the PCB. The line has to be deep enough to break through the copper layer:
Because this stock LED is now disabled, I only installed the LED Diffusers in the top two holes. This allows our wiring to pass through the hole.
IMPORTANT: Save the unused LED Diffuser – we can use it with the Rear Beacons.
Finally, at the end of this stage, I drilled a 2mm hole up through the floor of the Box Frame to allow this LED wiring to feed back up inside the Box Frame:
Wiring
These rear lights on the Box Frame were connected to the resistored sockets of the Micro 4-port Expansion Board for the Body Side & Rear Emergency Lights. I chose to have the strobe pattern alternate down the side of the truck, so I plug them into alternating boards as I go:
