Build
Assembling the Right Fly Section
Step 1
As in the previous stages, I used my Black Artistro Paint Pen to give the bumper on this Stop Plate a quick coat of paint:
Push the D-shaped pin of the Stop Plate into the matching hole at this location on the Fly Section (Left), as shown.
Just like the previous Stop Plates, I used my hobby knife to scrape off the white paint from the pin and then super glued this part in place:
Step 2
Retrieve your Pipe D from Stage 62. Inside one of the shorter posts of Pipe D into this hole of the Fly Section (Right).
The long post of this Pipe D should be facing away from the rest of the Fly Section, as shown:
Retrieve your Fly Section (Left) assembly from the previous stage. Fit it to this Fly Section (Right) so it captures the other short post of Pipe D in between, as shown:
Step 3
Secure these two Fly Sections together with two (2) Type I screws:
Step 4
Retrieve your two Piston Poles supplied back in Stage 50. Slide the eyelet of one Piston Pole down into this slot of the Fly Section, aligning the screw hole as shown:
Secure this Piston Pole into place with one (1) Type F screw, as shown:
Repeat the previous process to secure the second Piston Pole into the other side of the Fly Section with one (1) more Type F screw:
Step 5
Retrieve your Ladder Platform assembly last worked on in Stage 52 and place it at the end of the Fly Section, as shown:
Begin sliding the ends of both Piston Poles up into the matching Piston Outer Sections of the Ladder Platform, as shown:
As you lower the Ladder Platform down towards the Fly Section, slide the rounded tip of the Ladder Pipe Part B into the open end of Pipe D as shown:
The Ladder Platform should be able to sit down flat onto the ‘arms’ of the Fly Section, as seen here:
Step 6
Secure the underside of the Ladder Platform to the Fly Section with two (2) Type F screws, one on each side.
You may need to slightly adjust the position of the Ladder Platform to align these holes:
Step 7
Retrieve your Ladder Bracket from Stage 63. Fit this Ladder Bracket to the top end of the Fly Section as shown, then secure it into place with two (2) Type C screws:
Step 8
Retrieve your Ladder 9 fire truck assembly and slide this Fly Section into the end of the aerial boom, as shown.
As with the previous aerial sections, it may take a bit of force to pop the Fly Section into the Midsection:
Thoughts
With this Fly Section installed, we have completed the main construction of our FDNY Tower Ladder 9 aerial boom assembly. We can now move onto adding the final details, the second set of rear wheels, and the boom ladders and waterways.
